You want to grow your business on social media, but you’re spinning your wheels on ‘how’...
How do you know what works?
How do you capture your audience’s attention?
How do you know if you’re wasting your time? Doing the right thing? The wrong thing? The effective thing?
It can be tricky, especially since the algorithms are changing all the time. But, if you can get a strong grasp on the basics and put the time in now, your chances of growing a good following with a strong social presence is, well, good!
Business owners… Let’s take a moment and self-evaluate by answering some basic questions:
1. Do I have a Facebook page?
2. If so, when was the last time I posted?
3. Is what I’m posting interesting and relevant to my target audience?
4. Do I have a strong presence in the social media world?
Having a Facebook page for your business is important. Over 80% of people will visit your Facebook page to ‘check you out’ before ever visiting your brick-and-mortar store, signing up with you, or making a purchase. Eighty percent!
So imagine these newcomers showing up on your page. What is their first impression? Do you look well put together and interesting?
I want to share some super basic yet extremely beneficial tips with you on how to improve the overall effectiveness of your Facebook page. If you want to grow your business, follow this social media expertise.
Tip 1. First Impression
Think of your Facebook page as your storefront. You want it to look clean, relevant, interesting, and eye-catching. Clean up your photos and even consider getting some professional shots to generate a high-quality, eye-catching first impression. The average newcomer will only spend 5-15 seconds scanning your page. This means that anything that they can access within those 5-15 seconds needs to look amazing, up-to-date, and active… meaning your most recent post isn’t from 3 months ago with zero engagement. Get on it, make your ‘storefront’ shine.
Tip 2. Relevancy
I'm always amazed at what people share (i.e. the interesting, the entertaining, the engaging, and the ‘why in the world would you have posted that’ type of information). If your page is about houses, post about houses and all of the amazing things that have to do with houses. That’s what people will know your page as. If you start posting about vacations, grocery shopping, and events that have nothing to do with anything you do, people will be confused. If people are confused, they are not going to stick around. Be relevant to what your amazing business is all about. Always. Think of the top five subjects that your ideal client would be interested in and post about those things. Be interesting. Be entertaining. Be engaging.
Tip 3. Authenticity
The more real you are in your posts, the better. Share who you are, share what it is you do, and speak to your audience in your own voice (as if you were speaking to them in person). Authenticity is what people are drawn to on social media; it’s what they can relate to. Authenticity = Relatability = Genuine Interest = Stronger Leads from Ideal Clientele. Because of the abundance of information posted on social media every single day, it is very important that your audience has the opportunity to see, feel, and hear your own unique voice. YOUR authentic self represents YOUR authentic business. Let your audience know you.
And while there are many more tips and tricks to amplify your social media strength and presence, the above will provide you with a great, impactful start. Generate a solid first impression. Be relevant to your business and expertise. Be real, be you - always.
