Last month, the Bennett Media Group team took a trip to the ‘Windy City’ to expand on our digital knowledge at the annual Digital Summit in Chicago. Over the span of three days, the entire BMG team listened to keynotes and breakout sessions from some of the top digital guru’s in the nation. With appearances by marketing experts from Google, ASPCA, Facebook, Milwaukee Brewers, Kraft-Heinz and many more, it was a great chance to learn from other like minded people who are experts in the world of digital marketing.
Not only did we learn new information and trends but we also gained a lot of confidence knowing that what we have been doing for our clients is also what is working for larger companies in the big markets. We all came away with value from the summit that we have already brought back to clients our local market.
Much of the summit concentrated on content creation, social media strategy and digital advertising, however motivational speakers and comic relief were also a big part of the event. Having VIP access throughout the summit was also a nice perk for the team, I mean, an exclusive lounge with leather couches, a massage therapist and open bar was a great place to take a break and discuss the learnings of the session prior.
Although the amount of knowledge gained over a short period was extensive, there was plenty of time for team building and ‘unwinding’ during the three day trip. Staying right on Michigan Ave. made trips to restaurants and bars very convenient. There of course was the obligation for authentic deep dish pizza from Lou Malnatti’s thanks to Betsy’s suggestion, a frequent visitor to the big city. Other signature stops included dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, a drink at the top of the Hancock Building ($17.50 for an Old Fashioned!) and a last night recap at Howl at the Moon dueling piano bar – oh to be a fly on the wall listening to us belt out classic songs from the 80’s…
All in all we had a blast together. There is no better way to get to know a group of people than piling into the mini van for a 6 hour road trip. We all learned a lot and laughed even more. I can't wait for the next adventure.
